The Sleeping Bee

I have been worried these past few years about the disappearance of the honey bee, who normally hover around the lawn clover as a memory of my barefoot youth. I was delighted to spy on this honeybee in the butterfly bush who appears to be taking a little snooze.

Intrigue on a Mushroom

Although it was only as big as a large button, there is so much art in abstraction decorating this yard mushroom. Every time I stare at it I see something else unfolding within my consciousness... something ancient, fluid, and undefinable...

Miscanthus Stardust

I love the gentle patterns made by a close-up of this ornamental grass called miscanthus stardust. Those little yellow flecks on the emerald green blades caught my eye and made me get right in their face to take this glamour shot.

Butterfly Bush Visit

The butterfly bushes are in full glorious bloom and I managed to catch a likely visitor enjoying a tasty landing. He allowed a private showing of his spectacular coloring before flying off in the mid afternoon sunshine.

Slant of the Bank

Although it may look like my angle was off, this is the sloping landscape in my backyard that leads to a stream that basks in the sunlight. It is a peaceful and magickal place.

The Root of the Matter

I love the earthy smell of the woods and so I find the out of the way places that most people ignore. Looking up from a wooded path near a small pond, I marveled at these exposed roots that still held this majestic tree upright to the road above. Some kind of magick going on here?

Aging Beauty

This wrinkly petunia graced a planter outside my back door. Just a bit past her prime, the brilliant purple of her face still captivates me.

A Wry Smile

When I'm searching for my subjects of natural beauty, sometimes I need to adjust my vision... just a little, so I can see the playful faces that excite my imagination. Can you see the wry smile on the face of this lovely rock?

Tiny Pillow

In all my years of noticing mushrooms and toadstools, this is the first square one I've ever seen. It looks like a little fairy pillow that was delicately placed in the grassy shade down by the brook.

Cotton Candy Spray

It was a warm, sunny day down at the duck pond. Passing the aerators that keep the water in circulation, I couldn't help thinking of a big wand of cotton candy... a favorite summertime treat of my childhood.

Dance of Light and Bubble

Just an ordinary stream at an extraordinary time of day. The afternoon sun slants through the canopy of trees as bubbles from the upstream rippling glow and float downstream in a choreograph of swirls and waltzes.

Cascade of Broom

A cascading waterfall of pink bloom gently spilling over the golden gazing ball... this vision held my attention for many many minutes. I so admire the blossoming of the Scotch Broom.

Peppermint Rose

This delicate opening rose reminds me of a candy cane with it's red and white coloring... there is a cool and minty feeling as I gaze at it. The leaf above must have been chewed by a beetle, but thankfully they know better than to mar the face of a perfect rose.

Simple Landscape

I'm always happy when I have the camera handy when something striking hits my eye. I took this shot from the window of our car as we passed this tree lined field. Such a serene depiction of a pleasant summer's day.

Finding Faces

Like a Kandinsky abstract painting, there is much to see in the peeling bark of this tree. Faces are hiding, eyes peering, lips pursing... all a matter of what the mind looks to see.

Mimosa Ballet

Two little tutus cartwheeling in the wind. The daintiest and most fragrant flowers from a tree that grows from my earliest childhood memories.

Fairy Photoshoot

Within a chink in the ancient stone, a floating fairy in dancing filament briefly stops her performance to pose for the camera.

A Bit of the Blue

I just love the freshness of the hydrangea. The blue of the blossoms are exquisite and the color is accentuated by the dark lush leaves that surround this perfect head.

Swinging in the Parrish

If you enlarge and look close you will see an imaginary rope swing upon the tree branch as a cloud floats lazily by... I imagine myself as one of Parrish's lovely languid ladies swinging in the
summer breeze.

The Littlest Weed...

The littlest weed like the littlest deed in kindness, has just as much beauty as the big and showy. Sometimes you only need to look under the surface.

A Quiet Meal

The visitors were looking up and out over the ledge to the sky and valley in the distance. Slowly I climbed down beyond their gazes and to watch this beautiful doe enjoy a meal of fresh leaves... she was not disturbed by me in the least, looked up once, and continued her quiet meal.
