I feel sorry for the little egret who seems to shrug his shoulders in lonely resignation as he watches the gulls, terns, and sandpipers cavorting in groups... while he totters alone on his spindly legs.

It it better to be an existential egret or a solipsistic sandpiper? Only the pelican knows for sure.
