The Transformation

Every day for weeks I've been watching the transformation of my hydrangea bush. Pale blue tips of a petalled snowball evolve into the powdery silk pinwheels and have matured to a deep cerulean... which blanches slightly in the light of the sun.

The Lure of Mimosa

From the third floor window of the attic room, I lean out to enjoy the waning blooms and heady fragrance of the mimosa tree. Patiently I wait for the fickle flight of a butterfly to settle down to a feast of nectar.

Standing Guard

The proud commander holds his post on the shoreline. Breakers crash and flow right to edge of his planted feet, yet he is nonplussed and unblinking. His job of monitoring the tides is a very serious one indeed.

Tiger Lily

Stalking at the edge of the woodland stream with curling lips and striped petal fur, the Tiger Lily is alert and seemingly ready to pounce at the sun.

A Welcome Visitor

I love my spider friends who drape the porch in silken threads of spiral glisten. Their artwork is exquisite and their method of hunting has all the intrigue of a horror film. No need for citronella here... my nemesis the mosquito dare not visit when my spider friends are making themselves at home.

Sparrow's Song

Upon his perch to the hemlock mic, the sparrow rehearses his love song against a backdrop of clover. Soon his lady friends will join him, one by one in coquettish flirtation... and the mating game begins.

Sign of Summer

The school year is winding down and at the edge of the asphalt path from the schoolyard that leads to the woods, a wanted sign lies in wait asking for donated waterguns. One has to admire the effort put into the request... perhaps a passing fairy will grant it.

Bumbling Along

Upside down after a to and fro flit, my fuzzy bumble bee friend is hard at work collecting pollen. He sings when he works with the traditional "ballad of the buzz"... and I could watch him for hours on end.

Fawning

The dear little one bravely marched up from the forest and stood as if posing for the camera. My delight was immeasurable as I welcomed my newest neighbor to feast on the vegetation in my own backyard.
Happy Summer Solstice!

The Final Curtsy

Flanked by the flounce of the rising stars, the aged diva makes her final performance of "Dance on Breezes," then curtseys her farewell before dropping from the stage.

Tree Wise

Does a tree cry foul and drown in the pouring rain? No, with chid-like hands it reaches out to catch the drops and is nourished to it's very roots. Such is the wisdom of a tree.

Willow Grove

I'll be admiring this willow grove from a distance for a while. The mother doe by the bridge has not been happy, as her young reckless fawn has been spotted crazily running amok in the adjacent field on several occasions.

Goldilocks Girls

Two goldilocks girls giggle in the garden. They were caught in the pouring rain and wait with glee as the Golden Orb comes to dry their lovely locks.

Spellbound

As I approached my jaw dropped like a child watching her first fireworks display. The explosion of spiky strands and odiferous fragrance held me transfixed in thrilling delight. The adult in me would love to know what this tree is called.

Cloud Watch

A sun-kissed cloud floats slowly into view... a backdraft of illumination that catches the breath in a moment of imaginative wonder.

Snap the Dragons

Sunlit torches licked in light, lemony crinolines quiver from the dance of the bloom, and the hot breath wind that carries the scented seed. Captured in a moment of click.

A Shy Spooky Friend

http://www.entertonement.com/clips/lsxpndhhbb--Easterb-Screech-OwlOwls-
Darkness looms and beyond the crux of the Linden tree comes an eerie voice and yellow eye that delights with a sense of the macabre. The eastern screetch owl has come to visit, sending my pet bunny dashing from the porch and into the house to hide.

June 12: Heal the Gulf

I place my hands upon these waters, a Goddess chant to share with others. Stop our Mother's heart from bleeding, send our oily greed receding. Save the mammals, fish, and birds.... heal her heart with loving words.

Smoke Tree

Same tree... different lighting.

Cotton Candy Tree

I'm not a nosy neighbor and yet I am drawn to the fence under the cedar trees to stare at the beauty of this smoke tree in the yard next door. In the morning it blooms cotton candy pink, but by late afternoon it deepens to a sultry maroon. (Well, maybe I'm a tad nosy)

Anticipation

From a distance the quiet setting of the local carnival stirs the imagination... endless possibility for excitement. It's funny how sometimes the anticipation of an event seems more exciting than the actual occurrence.

Like a medieval doorway opening to a parquet hallway, the arc of the tunnel enchants with golden sunlight that catches reflections of the dancing shadows from the water below.

Fragrant Memory

Honeysuckle fills the air everywhere I go! A perfect glimpse of the vine in three life stages: young curious shoots, proud dancing blossoms, enfeebled golden invalids. Oh to taste that divine nectar once again!

The Party's Over

The vivid colors of deflating balloons amidst a tangle of multicolored ribbon lie in peaceful abandonment by the curb of the road. Easter eggs of hope upon the fertile ground.
