Goodbye Old Friend

It was a cool clear blustery day, pleasant for October and nothing out of the ordinary when a sudden cracking ripping sound was heard.
There in the yard an old linden tree lay... uprooted and split at the base. The leaves, still green, gave off an eerie death rattle in the breeze. She had survived a fungal infection to her distal branches, and a wire noose that someone harnessed into her trunk, and a glancing lightening strike that rendered a small patch of her bark bruised purple, and yet it only took one gust of wind to push her over the edge. A sprinkling of young weeds had already claimed the territory surrounding her uprooted base... life continues.

This tree hugger offered a prayer of thanks for her years of service to the birds that sought refuge under her outstretched limbs and said a fond farewell... her remains will be cremated in a farmers wood-burning stove and life will continue around her former dwelling place.

  3. A good story of the Lady Linden Tree. We loved her and she served us well. She will lift from the earth in soft gray smoke and return again one day soon...somewhere.
